The New Orleans office of Baker Donelson was founded on February 14, 2004 by 14 outstanding lawyers from two different law firms.

Today the Firm, which has a presence in the city's Central Business District, as well as in Mandeville, a burgeoning community north of Lake Pontchartrain, and in Baton Rouge, boasts more than 70 top-notch Louisiana attorneys who act as trusted advisors and advocates to businesses and business people.  

The lawyers of the New Orleans office provide a full array of business legal services, and have received particular recognition in the fields of commercial litigation, bankruptcy and creditors' rights, construction, health care, real estate transactions and litigation, railroad, admiralty, maritime financing, oil and gas and labor and employment. Attorneys in this office are routinely recognized nationally in Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers, and locally in New Orleans Magazine Top Lawyers, as well as City Business Leaders in Law and Women in Leadership.

Financial Services Associate – All Offices (Charlotte or Raleigh, NC preferred) (#790)

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, P.C. seeks a mid-level associate with four or more years of debt finance experience to join its thriving Financial Services Transaction practice. Specific experience representing lenders and borrowers on leveraged finance transactions, including drafting and negotiating credit agreements, intercreditor agreements, security agreements and other primary loan documents, as well as managing transaction closings and supervising junior associates and paralegals is preferred. Experience with mezzanine finance or other private credit funds is a plus. Applicants who have excellent analytical and writing skills, as well as a strong understanding of acquisition financing, are sought to become a part of a nationally recognized financial services team. Estate Planning and Administration Position - New Orleans

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC has an immediate opening for an experienced Estate Planning/Estate Administration/Successions position in its New Orleans office. Estate Planning responsibilities include data input and organization related to the preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, beneficiary designations, and various other estate planning instruments. Estate Administration & Successions responsibilities include assistance with matters such as identifying and marshaling assets, preparing probate petitions, maintaining a calendar system of court and other deadlines, maintaining financial records of the estate, preparing inventories and accountings, and fulfilling many other functions throughout the succession (probate) process. The ability to interface with clients and financial institutions as part of the information-gathering process is a must. Responsibilities may also include assistance with the preparation of trust accountings, estate and gift tax returns, and income and fiduciary returns. Client contact is to be expected. Applicants should have substantial experience with respect to preparing estate planning, estate administration, and probate instruments. All candidates must have either a bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program.

Candidates should possess organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Must have proficient and accurate knowledge of computers and MS Office Suite, including Outlook and Excel. Must possess excellent oral and written skills, attention to detail, time management, multi-tasking and prioritizing abilities and the desire to work hard both independently and as part of a team.  Experience with ProbatePlus or Estateworks software is a plus.

Law Firm Electronic Billing Specialist - Remote

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell, & Berkowitz PC has an immediate opening for a Law Firm Electronic Billing Specialist. This position is 90% remote working from a Firm office two days a month. This position may be associated with any Firm office location. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of executing attorney eBilling. This position requires a detail-oriented person with excellent critical thinking skills; multi-tasking abilities in support of a large, fast-moving law firm; a team player attitude with a positive outlook; excellent verbal and written skills; ability to work independently and a self-starter; a professional and punctual manner; flexibility to work overtime when needed; and the ability to tackle challenges and work efficiently and effectively and handle other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

This role requires fluency in Microsoft Office programs / applications, Aderant or other legal accounting software experience. A minimum of 2 years college and an accounting background are preferred. Will train the right candidate

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with appropriate firm personnel to ensure new clients/matters are set up correctly in the required eBilling platform.
  • Addresses and responds to questions on electronic billing issues. Follows through in a timely manner to ensure questions are satisfactorily addressed.
  • Manages the electronic invoice submission process through payment; while tracking exclusions and appeals, deadlines, etc.
  • Monitors new timekeepers to ensure they are on approved rate cards for efficient invoice approval and payment.
  • Monthly reconciliations between BillBlast and legal software system to ensure all invoices have been successfully eBilled. Follows up as needed.
  • Weekly review of eBilling status through BillBlast to ensure there are no issues.
  • Works with BillBlast to resolve electronic billing problems.
  • Reviews and ensures the eBilling guidelines are noted on the appropriate matter notes.
  • Ensure monthly eBilling is completed by firm deadlines.
  • Prepare documentation and process mark-downs in accordance with Firm policy.
  • Ability to professionally and effectively interact and communicate with attorneys, secretaries (assistants), administrative staff and clients.
  • Review and verify accuracy of billing and supporting documentation as required, including cost back up documentation.
  • Research and respond to inquiries regarding billing issues and problems.
  • Understand and apply Firm billing policies.
  • Understand and comply with individual client billing guidelines.
  • Observe and maintain confidentiality of client and firm matters.
  • Knowledge of various computer software programs to perform duties and responsibilities (Excel, Word, Aderant, BillBlast and various eBilling platforms.
  • Thoroughly understand firm, client, matter and exception rates and discounts.
  • Has a working knowledge of client guidelines for assigned attorneys and clients.
  • Proactively addresses errors that may result in delays in uploading or rejection of invoices.
  • Analyze and problem-solve eBilling rejections independently, without additional escalation.
  • Facilitate the set-up of clients who are transitioning to electronic billing or changing electronic billing vendors to ensure a smooth transition.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. Knowledge of various computer software programs to perform duties and responsibilities (Excel, Word, Aderant, BillBlast and various eBilling platforms.)
  2. Must have good organizational, communication and math skills.
  3. Must be detail oriented.
  4. Must be able to endure highly stressful situations and constant disruptions.
  5. Overtime when needed.

Bankruptcy Associate - New Orleans (#798)

The New Orleans office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell and Berkowitz, P.C. seeks an associate with three or more years of bankruptcy, workout, and/or relevant commercial litigation experience to join its Corporate Restructuring & Bankruptcy practice group. The position involves representing lenders, secured and unsecured creditors, and businesses in a variety of restructuring and insolvency matters with default resolutions, collections and repossessions, loan workouts, and bankruptcy-related matters in federal and state court. Knowledge of real estate, maritime, and/or energy law are a plus. Communications Specialist

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell, & Berkowitz, PC has an immediate opening for a Communications Specialist. This position may be located in any office within the Firm's footprint. This position reports to the Firm's Senior Public Relations Manager and is responsible for collaborating with members of the Marketing and Business Development (MBD) Department in the implementation of the Firm's communications strategy and with the Firm's Communications Coordinator in attorney credentialing initiatives, as well as provides general communications support to the entire MBD Department.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Working with Business Development and Marketing Technology colleagues on the development and writing of website content such as practice group and industry descriptions
  2. Working with Business Development and Marketing Technology colleagues to ensure best practices are utilized in client-facing communications such as client alerts and newsletters
  3. Management and oversight of the MBD proofreading function, including responsibility for maintaining and enforcing the Firm's Style Guide
  4. Proofreading, writing, and general communications support for all external-facing materials developed by the MBD Department
  5. Management of all the Firm's attorney credentialing initiatives with the support of the Firm's Communications Coordinator and under the direction of the Senior Public Relations Manager. This will include legal directories such as Best Lawyers, Chambers USA, and Super Lawyers, as well as recognition opportunities through national legal media and local business media across the Firm's markets. This includes:
    1. leading the strategy and execution of the nomination and research processes;
    2. collaborating with attorney teams and Business Development colleagues in drafting and finalizing directory submissions, rankings, and surveys for practices across the Firm;
    3. and reviewing submissions for quality and content prior to submitting
  6. Management of internal resources that track credentialing opportunities, including a resource outlining credentialing opportunities, their methodologies and validity to identify those that are most credible and strategic for the Firm and our attorneys
  7. Leading internal education and training efforts related to credentialing initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field
  2. Minimum of three to five years of experience in communications, marketing or related role within a professional services organization (law firm experience preferred; supervisory experience a plus)
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  4. Excellent organizational and project management skills
  5. Superior attention to detail along with ability to multi-task and work within multiple deadlines
  6. Ability to communicate effectively and establish credibility with professionals at all levels of the Firm., including senior leadership.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
