Steve Azia Comments in HME News on OMHA Appeals Backlog

The workload at the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals (OMHA) has increased 184% since 2010 and the average number of appeals received each week has increased from 1,250 to 15,000, according to a recent memo from Chief Administrative Law Judge Nancy Griswold to providers who currently have appeals pending. The office currently has a backlog of 357,000 appeals. In this HME News article, Steve Azia discusses the surge in providers filing appeals with the ALJ.

"They get overturned routinely because they never should have been denied in the first place," said Mr. Azia. "I handle a lot of claims that should never get to the ALJ."
