In a Birmingham Business Journal article on 20 things businesses need to know about health care reform, Andrea Bailey Powers comments on the impact of the federal government's delay in enforcing the employer mandate, which requires businesses with 50 or more employees to provide health care coverage to employees or pay penalties. Ms. Powers notes that the delay may result in adjustments in premiums. "Insurers that were anticipating increases in group policy members will see that delayed by a year. This may impact underwriting that has already occurred for the 2014 year such that premium quotes that have already been provided may need to be revised if the employer decides not to expand coverage to full-time employees."
