(Memphis, TN / October 15, 2015) The law firm of Baker Donelson has been named one of Fortune's 100 Best Workplaces for Women.
Baker Donelson is ranked 66th and is one of only two law firms to be included in the list, which was determined by employee surveys and the representation of women within their organizations.
"Baker Donelson has long been committed to creating a workplace environment in which women thrive," said Christy Tosh Crider, chair of Baker Donelson's Women's Initiative and a shareholder in the Firm's Nashville office. "That commitment is evident in our success in recruiting, promoting and retaining female professionals and in our industry-leading policies that promote work-life balance, including our generous parental leave policy. We're exceptionally proud of the strong representation of women in leadership roles across the Firm, from our president and chief operating officer to practice group leaders and office managing shareholders. This recognition by Fortune is a testament to our efforts to develop a work environment for women that is among the best in the country."
To create its inaugural 100 Best Workplaces for Women list, Fortune partnered with Great Place to Work® Institute to survey 135,689 women at 637 companies, who answered a detailed questionnaire considering everything from the fairness of their company's promotions, to who has access to information and leadership, the level of support for employees' personal lives, and the degree of inclusiveness and connection they feel with colleagues. Women answered 58 questions in total, including an overall assessment of whether the company is a great place to work. Two-thirds of each company's score is based on employee opinion and reports from female employees. The remaining third takes into account how well-represented women are within the workforce overall, as well as the number of women who hold management and executive positions.
Earlier this year, Baker Donelson was also named one of Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For®. In its sixth consecutive year to be included, Baker Donelson was ranked 30th, earning its highest ranking yet and its second consecutive year as the highest-ranked law firm on the prestigious list, which recognizes companies that have exceptional workplace cultures. In addition to its inclusion in Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For® and Best Workplaces for Women, the Firm has been ranked among the top ten law firms in the country in Vault, Inc.'s "Best Law Firms to Work For" and "Best Law Firms for Diversity" lists, and is frequently recognized in numerous local workplace listings across its footprint.
