Baker Donelson Named Birmingham Business Journal's 2012 Corporate Citizen of the Year

(Birmingham, AL/May 2, 2012) Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC is proud to announce the Firm was recently named the inaugural winner of the Birmingham Business Journal's Corporate Citizen of the Year at its 2012 Nonprofit Awards.

The Firm was recognized in the "150 or fewer employees" category for its strong commitment to and implementation of pro bono work, such as operating legal clinics for the homeless, coordinating volunteer attorneys for Project Homeless Connect, working with the Birmingham Municipal Court to develop a monthly court docket for the homeless, and representing the poor in civil cases and in post-conviction death penalty litigation.

"Our commitment to pro bono is a reflection of the value we place on people – not just the clients who pay for our work, but also employees, neighbors and especially those who live in our community but are unseen and have no voice. Of all the things that can be said about why Baker Donelson matters, for me the most important and most valued one is this: We care, and we put our caring into action," said Pro Bono shareholder Lisa W. Borden.

The special section honored local Birmingham charities, organizations and corporate citizens dedicated to making a difference in their community. Visit The Birmingham Business Journal online for a full list of the 2012 Nonprofit Award finalists and winners.
