Jennifer has more than 20 years of legal experience, during which she has focused her practice on general litigation, regulatory health law, and insurance matters. She has experience analyzing and advising clients on the Federal Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and Certificate of Need issues, as well as issues related to the Affordable Care Act, regulation of private insurance companies, and Medicare supplement plans. Jennifer also has experience in child welfare law.
Jennifer previously served as an attorney with the State's Insurance Department, Life and Health Actuarial Division, where she advised on federal and state legal and regulatory issues related to health care and insurance, as well as health insurance related consumer complaints. As an attorney with the Mississippi Auditor's Office, Technical Assistance Division, she advised public officials in local and state government regarding the duties and responsibilities of their respective offices, especially pertaining to the expenditure of state funds. In this role, she also advised constituents and other office divisions on concerns of public misspending, fraud, and compliance. Additionally, Jennifer assists clients with policy and regulation development, as well as legislative drafting.
Jennifer has advised community and non-profit hospitals, physicians, and other health care clients regarding health care regulatory and various compliance issues. She is experienced negotiating a variety of contracts, such as physician employment contracts, supplier and vendor agreements, and hospital administrator contracts, and reviewing and preparing medical staff bylaws and policies relating to such issues.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Jennifer served as a social worker in two major medical centers, which lends her a unique understanding of matters related to vulnerable families and children.
