Join Baker Donelson Disaster Recovery and Government Services Team co-leader Wendy Huff Ellard for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) 2019 Legal Seminar. The only seminar designed specifically for electric cooperative legal professionals, this comprehensive two-day seminar provides inside and outside counsel and CEOs with the latest information on the most complex legal matters affecting electric co-ops. The Legal Seminar is for NRECA voting member employees, directors, consultants, and attorneys only.
On Monday, August 12, Wendy will conduct the pre-seminar workshop, "FEMA Fundamentals" with Martha Duggan, the Senior Regulatory Issues Director for NRECA. When a federally declared "major disaster" strikes, electric cooperatives are eligible to receive disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for necessary debris removal, emergency power restoration, and permanent restoration of damaged facilities. While restoring power is a priority during these times, cooperatives should be aware of the many risks – but also opportunities – associated with the various funding sources. Workshop attendees will receive an outline of FEMA's Public Assistance Program, including recent changes made as part of the Disaster Recovery Reform Act of 2018, with a specific focus on electric cooperatives.
