The Department of Labor has dramatically increased the number of employees who must be paid on an hourly basis. Previously, employees who earned $455.00 per week (or $23,660.00 per year) could qualify for exempt status. Now, the DOL has increased the threshold for exempt status to $50,440.00 per year. This increase will cause a number of employees who have previously been classified as exempt to be non-exempt, meaning they must now be paid on an hourly basis.
